Day 02: What is your favorite episode of Doctor Who (and why)?

My favorite episode of Doctor Who is ‘A Christmas Carol’ with Eleven, Amy and Rory.

I love it because it’s one of those episodes where the Doctor has to figure something out in a short span of time, but just because he’s THE DOCTOR, he’s going back in time into established events, which is one of his giant No-Nos, to make sure not only his companions, but an entire ship full of people (as well as those on the planet below) aren’t lost forever in a giant crash just because of some old angry fart who doesn’t care about anything but himself and his money. And it’s really great fun listening to the Doctor pep up Kazran for his first kiss - that was hilarious.

Also, role-playing!Amy and Rory is really kind of funny. There’s also a guy who looks like Geordi LaForge on the ship. And there’s actual snow this go ‘round. AND FLYING FISH AND SHARKS. That’s just amazing.

PLUS…the Doctor’s hair looks FANTASTIC throughout the episode. I’d just like to point that out.

 I did like this episode. It was like, my first episode. I had heard mention of the series before and remember itty bits from my past, but never really watched it then. Around winter last year, we watched some episodes, it seemed good, and I wanted to see more. I stumbled across the BBC America priemere on Christmas, shut myself up in a bedroom while everyone was downstairs socializing, and watched it on the tip of the bed, captured in its magic. This was my background knowledge at the point of watching it the first time: the guy running around in the TARDIS like he owns the place is the Doctor. Um, other little details, but that’s basically it, and I thought it was freaking awesome and the best thing on television in months. Around this time, I had basically fallen out of watching television except for Sunday night Simpsons on Fox because I always have and always will, watch The Simpsons. It seemed basically like everything I had watched normally had gone down the toilet and lived soully on the computer for the majority of my media sustenance. So from watching this absolutely dazzling and magical thing, I proceeded to watch whatever Doctor Who was available On Demand, which was only season five at the time, so like the good person I was, picked a random episode from the season, not bothering to go in chornological order, which now I try my best to do, and got “Amy’s Choice”. I sort of found out who the girl and the Roman on the ship were now. So, on Fridays and Saturdays, my sister and I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning watching the rest of that, and I repeatively tried to catch snippets of other episodes in season five on weeknights. It had actually drawn me in, and I had actually found something I genuinely liked a lot. I was pretty pumped when I heard about season six coming on, and we got some Jelly Babies for the occasion (not really my cup of tea, I’m afraid, but I’m willing to try them again) and I basically got this Tumblr because the hash tag #Doctor Who kept on appearing in the bottom left corner of the screen while watching “The Impossible Astronaut” and “The Day of the Moon”.So yeah, I think that it was good that I started out really which such a brilliant episode and led me into this wonderful, whimsical world of Doctor Who.
